Fisher Price's Little People are my daughters favorite toy right now, they are great! Thank you Laurie! We are so pleased that she is able to play with more then just the one race of toy, white! However, I have a question for Fisher Price...Why is it that all the minority race dolls are in working situations and the White characters are always on their way to parties, or picnics? Why is that? the picture above is the pretty red head Elena and her rabbit on a picnic. Below is Mia, she is hispanic and she runs a dog kennel....
This is the Hispanic Roberto, who works on construction....
Below is the white Sarah Lynn, who is camping in this scenario, and she is going to a party in another scenario...The African American dolls are also very hard at work...minimum wage work that is. They aren't Doctors or Teachers...they are fixing street lights and doing construction work.
What is the message here? Very interesting that it seems to be consistent even with the Dora dolls, she is Babysitter Dora and other odd jobs.Just thought I would bring this out there...What do you think about it?

thank you for noticing...and speaking up
Steph-
I ordered Vivi the People in your community, a set of four families all different races. However the families all match, so we like to mix it, pairing up different mommy's and daddy's and a different kid (adopted of course!)
And though I hadn't noticed before I will contribute that Maggie and Eddie (both white) are in a beach set playing and the garbage truck driver is hispanic! The school teacher in the ABC playset is caucasian and the zookeeper is hispanic! The only African American is Michael who is a fisherman on a boat (a toy that both the kids love by the way-it came with a whale that squirts water, you can't beat that!), but Eddie is also currently in the same role on a bigger boat at Target.
Interesting...
it's pure conspiracy!
Well, to say it is a conspiracy almost makes light of it...it isn't a conspiracy but more a very sad view on society. Or better yet, just plain old ignorance!
Chris and I were talking about what could be done about it...maybe if we wrote letters to the company telling them that we would like to see the minorities with better jobs, or even just having fun and playing like the white kids....maybe something would change.
What do you all think?
Hey there. We looked at our little people and found that the pirates are mixed races. Interesting that you noticed.
